It's finally Winter here in Colorado. In fact it's snowing on top of Pikes Peak as I type this! And so it seems like the perfect time to talk about our new Winter collection, along with a few teasers about some really awesome upcoming product releases.
Winter Collection 2025
For this years collection, we wanted to strike a balance between being both traditional and timeless. As candle makers we like to get creative with scents, but in some cases it's better to reign it in a bit in order to create a product that people will enjoy. Which brings us to our first scent in the collection; Cranberry Cheer.
This scent reminds me of potpourri at my parents house growing up. The smell of apple and cranberry quickly become prominent, with notes of cinnamon, sugar, and clove coming in for the strong finish. It's a traditional yet festive scent that's absolutely perfect for the season.
Releasing a new scent is a lot of work. There's so many different fragrance houses, so what we typically do is order several samples to smell and compare. In a lot of cases we'll have more than a dozen! The process is really fun, and although Brandi and I don't always agree, I think that's just part of what makes our collection so unique.
When I smelled this fragrance, I was immediately taken back. Cool, refreshing, but not that "cool water in the 90's" type of cool and refreshing. This one is refined...sophisticated, and smooth. Notes of vanilla and lavender open strongly here. At the bottom we've got very subtle but noticeable notes of cedar and wood. So in other words...if Vanilla Ice was going to buy a candle, he'd totes buy this one.
Sometimes Brandi and I both will smell something that we both agree on, but we're not quite sure where to place this. In fact this happens quite often! We have a short list of fragrances that we love, but aren't sure where to place them. It also takes a lot of thought when it comes to naming. The reason I mention the latter is that those things go hand-in-hand. Sometimes coming up with the name, makes the scent, make sense...if that makes any sense?
At any rate, you can thank Brandi for coming up with this name! It fits perfect as this candle opens with notes of champagne. It smells bubbly, and finishes with floral notes of geranium.
Not to digress, but we don't have very many floral scents. In fact out of the nearly dozen scents that we have available, only two are floral (including this one). It's not that we don't love floral, but we just like to use it sparingly if you know what I mean!
New this season are our Candle Minis! Basically, each of our new scents in our collections are now available as a sample kit. It makes for a perfect gift for those who you aren't quite sure what to get. Each kit comes with (4) tea-light candles, each burning up to 8 hours. And we've got them for Fall too!
How is making our own vessels going?
We're glad the Winter collection is finally out. Customers are loving this years scents, and we definitely had a blast creating them. We poured more than 6 dozen candles, which required a lot of vessels! In case you missed it, we make our own candle vessels out of cement. It's a daily process just to keep up, but we're starting to build a healthy back-stock so it does feel like we're able to manage.
We were on the news!
Oh forgot to mention, we were featured on Fox 21's Loving, Living, Local. It's a local news segment that highlights local businesses. Another local business (thanks Leah!) mentioned us, and we were invited on to talk about our products. It was a pretty cool experience!
Anything new coming up?
We've got some new products being tested as we speak! One of them won't be released until next year, but in the meantime we have quietly released a few new products that are in stock and ready to ship:
This little guy is the perfect size for our shaped candles like the Flower Orb, and our upcoming Christmas Tree being released today! Each plate is made by hand using Cement, then sealed with an eco-friendly sealer for a long-lasting finish.
A wonderful companion for our small-sized candles! We've been making and selling these trays for a few months, but decided to move to a design that matches our vessels a bit more. The new trays are a bit smaller, and they don't really fit (proportionally speaking) our medium candles, but they are a perfect size to fit our small candles!
Taper Candles
With Thankgsiving and Christmas right around the corner, we'll be releasing a set of taper candles. These natural wax candles are made with beeswax which is going to ionize the air (aka, clean it) while it burns, and it's going to burn for a long time! During testing we've got 22hrs out of a single candle. These will be available as a set, along with an optional taper candle holder that...you guessed it....we also make in-house. Here's a sneak peak of that along with one of the taper candles during a test burn.
